At risk of becoming the “dream pop blog”, here I present yet another beautifully-crafted dream pop track straight out of Aarhus, Denmark. Veering more towards the pop side of things rather than the dark, Danish band Moon Loves Honey submitted this single, the elegantly understated “Lonely Day”, last month. The track is the first single taken from Moon Loves Honey’s forthcoming full-length release due in April of 2018. And if I may, Moon Loves Honey is the kind of new artist who, even on my first listen, is able to convince me how much we all have to look forward to in the future of music.
What I hear in Jeppe Dengsø’s command of production, song structure and composition is the kind of subliminal DNA running through every pop song I ever loved as a teenager. It is a loneliness I can understand and sing along with. But the loneliness of the song’s protagonist is not merely wistful; he remains hopeful despite longing, channeling his embrace through the arms of this anthem, offering a hug to whoever or whatever is loved with the greatest love a human being is capable of knowing.
